next door.

there used to be a gallery next to my house.  i have only noticed one or two gallery opening parties happen there, and had never noticed any gallery hours or people going in and out.  then one day a man who was living on the ground floor, which i assumed was the same floor of the gallery, died and they cleaned out the apartment completely (i scored a vintage leather jacket).  they also cleaned a bed out of the apartment.  the type of bed that you have when you are bed ridden and maybe have a live-in nurse looking after you.  a few days later there were a bunch of people there, inside and outside, dressed in black talking and crying.  i’m not sure if the man had anything to do with the workings of the gallery, but now the building seems to be unoccupied and there are rat poison warnings on the windows.  if you look in the window you can still see some art in the ground floor apartment, particularly a life sized sculpture of a heavy set woman sitting on the floor.  it’s creepy at night.

wine on a roof.

my friend patricia has an awesome view of the city from her roof.  we frequently go up there to hang out and listen to music and drink wine, especially recently since it’s been so nice out.  just look at this dreamy view of lower manhattan while the sun sets.

you could also see all of the airplanes coming in to JFK.  i never really understood how much air traffic is over new york until i saw all of those little moving dots.

blooming trees.

the trees have fully bloomed on columbia street as well as the accompanying side streets.  every year it is always still so surprisingly pretty when it finally happens, although this year it happened pretty early.

soon enough the flowers will all fall from the trees creating a mess that is much harder to sweep up than the golden and rust colored leaves that fall in autumn.  but this owl doesn’t seem to mind.
